About Cynthia Azari

A dedicated leader in the education field, former Fresno City College president Cynthia Azari has more than three decades of experience in academic administration. She began her career at St. Edwards University, shortly after earning a master’s degree in both industrial relations and educational administration from West Virginia University. A curriculum coordinator for the institution, Cynthia Azari taught career development classes and selected instructional staff.

From there, Ms. Azari took on such titles as dean for business and technology at Olympic College, president of Butler County Community College, and president of Fresno City College. In these roles, she handled responsibilities such as overseeing college operations, recommending fiscal actions to the college chancellor and board of trustees, and supervising other college leaders. She also returned to school and earned her Ed.D. in educational leadership from Seattle University.

As a testament to her strong academic leadership ability, Cynthia Azari has received a number of awards over the course of her career. In 1993, she was recognized as an Olympic College Outstanding Administrator. Then, 2 years later, she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Washington Community and Technical Colleges. In addition, she won the National TRIO award in 2009 and the 2007 Central California Chapter TRIO Award.
